black & white
Driven by an inherent dynamism, these structures initially partially—and soon fully—detached themselves from the flat plane, ultimately acquiring an independent presence in space.
- Willy Van Den Bussche, 1973, on Tapta
In 2017, Black and White brought together a striking collection of artworks built on contrast and restraint. Working largely without color, the exhibition focused on what remains: light and shadow, surface and depth, presence and absence. Subtle shifts in material and texture added nuance, shaping how each work unfolded to the viewer. Across different approaches, the artists showed how a limited palette can sharpen attention and give form to quiet complexity. Rather than reducing expression, black and white opened up a space where subtlety, tension, and detail could fully emerge.
