Soft? Tactile Dialogues was initiated and developed by MoMu – Fashion Museum Antwerp, marking an important moment in the museum’s programme. With this exhibition, MoMu expanded its focus beyond fashion to explore textile as an artistic medium, addressing its position within contemporary art and its historical development.

In collaboration with the Maurice Verbaet Center, which hosted the exhibition, Soft? brought together works from the 1970s and 1980s with contemporary practices. Artists including Tapta, Veerle Dupont and Liberta Ferket were presented alongside figures such as Kati Heck, Nel Aerts and Christoph Hefti, creating a dialogue across generations.

Focusing on tactility, materiality and the expressive potential of textile, the exhibition challenged traditional distinctions between art and craft. At the same time, it reflected a shared interest in re-evaluating overlooked practices and offered new perspectives on textile within both artistic and fashion contexts.
