Escapades : Paul Van Hoeydonck
Whether it is a matter of establishing a formal space or allowing unexpected worlds to flow forth, Van Hoeydonck seeks to reconcile reason with the mysterious beauty of the universe.- Camille Brasseur
Alongside Van Hoeydonck's more famous works, this exhibition brings together a series of drawings from 1959 to 1961 that reveal a more intimate side of his practice. Like pages from a diary, they draw the viewer into shifting, imagined landscapes. Each composition ruptured, diffracted, aerated, or condensed captures a sense of movement that continues to unfold into the early 1980s, when he began shaping imaginary spaces through photographic collages and India ink, incorporating images from his own travels.
