Whether it is a matter of establishing a formal space or allowing unexpected worlds to flow forth, Van Hoeydonck seeks to reconcile reason with the mysterious beauty of the universe.

Alongside Van Hoeydonck's more famous works, this exhibition brings together a series of drawings from 1959 to 1961 that reveal a more intimate side of his practice. Like pages from a diary, they draw the viewer into shifting, imagined landscapes. Each composition ruptured, diffracted, aerated, or condensed captures a sense of movement that continues to unfold into the early 1980s, when he began shaping imaginary spaces through photographic collages and India ink, incorporating images from his own travels.
