In 2022, the Maurice Verbaet Gallery in Knokke presented the exhibition Paul Van Hoeydonck. Works of the 50s and 60s, dedicated to a pivotal period in the artist’s career.

Accompanied by a fully illustrated publication, the exhibition brought together a carefully selected group of works from the 1950s and 1960s, offering insight into Van Hoeydonck’s early artistic development.

Focusing on the decades in which the artist moved from figuration towards geometric abstraction and experimental practices, the presentation highlighted his engagement with form, light, and space. During this period, Van Hoeydonck played an active role within the international avant-garde, notably through his involvement in groups such as G58 and his dialogue with movements like ZERO.

The exhibition emphasized the foundations of a practice that would later expand into sculptural and cosmic explorations, situating Van Hoeydonck as a key figure within Belgian and international post-war art.
