Tapta Flexible Forms : Muzeum Susch
Tapta: Flexible Forms, held at Muzeum Susch in 2024 and curated by Liesbeth Decan, marked the first major retrospective of the artist outside Belgium. The exhibition offered an in-depth exploration of Tapta’s pioneering practice, tracing her evolution from early textile works to large-scale, immersive installations. Central to the presentation was her concept of “flexible forms,” in which sculpture becomes responsive to space, movement, and the presence of the viewer.
The Maurice Verbaet Center played a significant role in the realization of the exhibition. Drawing on its extensive holdings, the Center contributed key works on loan, alongside archival material from the Tapta Archive preserved in Berchem. This documentation provided essential insight into the development of the artist’s practice and supported the exhibition’s scholarly framework.
Rather than taking a visible curatorial role, the Center’s contribution operated more quietly, underpinning the exhibition through its collection and archive. In doing so, it helped bring forward a body of work that is rarely seen at this scale, allowing Tapta’s practice to be experienced in its full spatial and material complexity.
