Art Brussels
A dual presentation where Tapta’s tactile, spatial practice met the bold visual language of Belgian Pop Art. A contrast that unfolded as a complementary dialogue.
At Art Brussels 2025, we presented two distinct booths, each offering a focused perspective on postwar and contemporary artistic practices.
One booth was entirely dedicated to the work of Tapta. Sculptural works in neoprene and metal emphasized flexibility, tension and balance, revealing a practice situated between sculpture and environment. Through these works, Tapta investigated the relationship between material, gravity and architectural space, creating forms that are both tactile and spatially dynamic.
The second booth brought together a selection of Belgian Pop Art from the 1960s and 1970s, presenting artists such as Evelyne Axell, Pol Mara, Marcel Mariën and Guy Peellaert, alongside figures including Cel Overberghe, BALDER and Louis-Marie Londot. This ensemble reflected a wide spectrum of approaches to image culture, consumer society and visual language, ranging from sensuous and provocative imagery to more critical and conceptual positions.
The dialogue between these two presentations underscored contrasting yet complementary approaches: on the one hand, Tapta’s material-driven and spatially oriented practice; on the other, the image-based and culturally engaged language of Belgian Pop Art. Together, the booths offered insight into the diversity of artistic experimentation in the postwar period.
