Art Paris: Solo show Pierre Célice
A solo presentation revealing the consistency and evolution of Célice’s work across time and scale.
At Art Paris 2019, we presented a solo exhibition dedicated to the work of Pierre Célice, offering a focused insight into his distinctive painterly language. The presentation brought together a group of paintings and works on paper spanning several decades, revealing both the consistency and evolution within his practice.
Célice’s work is characterized by a dynamic interplay between gesture, color and line. His compositions, often built through repetition and variation, oscillate between abstraction and a form of coded writing, where signs and marks accumulate across the surface. The selection included both large-scale canvases and more intimate works on paper, allowing for a reading of his practice across different formats and rhythms.
The juxtaposition of works from the late 1980s to more recent pieces emphasized Célice’s ongoing exploration of structure and spontaneity. While his visual language remained immediately recognizable, subtle shifts in color, density and composition revealed a continuous process of refinement and experimentation.
