Brafa In The Galleries
On the occasion of BRAFA in the Galleries, the gallery featured works by, among others, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Bram Bogart, Pierre Alechinsky, Englebert Van Anderlecht, René Guiette, Pol Mara, and Christian Dotremont.
In 2021, in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Brussels Art Fair (BRAFA) was exceptionally reimagined as BRAFA in the Galleries. Instead of its traditional centralized format, the fair took place across participating galleries, allowing visitors to discover artworks in a more intimate and decentralized setting while ensuring health and safety measures. This alternative edition not only sustained the fair’s international visibility but also reinforced the direct connection between galleries, collectors, and artworks.
The Maurice Verbaet Gallery, primarily dedicated to Belgian postwar art, presented a carefully curated selection of both renowned and underrecognized artists deserving renewed attention. Focusing on the period 1945–1975—the Trente Glorieuses—the gallery offered a compelling insight into a key chapter of Belgian art history, complemented by later works where relevant.
