Art Brussels
In 2024, the Maurice Verbaet Gallery participated in Art Brussels, one of Europe’s leading contemporary art fairs, held from 25 to 28 April at Brussels Expo.
For this edition, the gallery presented a focused selection of works highlighting Belgian post-war art, bringing together artists such as Francis Dusépulchre and André Willequet, alongside the contemporary artist MICHA. This carefully considered juxtaposition created a dialogue between generations, linking historical practices to contemporary artistic expression.
The presentation emphasized a shared interest in materiality, gesture, and visual structure. Dusépulchre’s exploration of light, relief, and perception and Willequet’s expressive and tactile approach to painting were placed in conversation with MICHA’s contemporary work, revealing continuities as well as shifts in artistic language.
By introducing a living artist within this context, the gallery extended its research beyond a purely historical framework, demonstrating the ongoing relevance of post-war artistic concerns in contemporary practice.
