Art Antwerp
Together, the selection proposed a multifaceted view of postwar artistic production, where different media and approaches coexisted and continuously informed one another.
At Art Antwerp 2021, [gallery/museum name] presented a broad and nuanced selection of 20th-century works, bringing together painting, sculpture and works on paper in a presentation that moved between different artistic languages and materials.
The selection juxtaposed artists such as Gaston Bertrand, Jan Burssens and Jo Delahaut with figures including René Guiette, Vic Gentils and Antoine Mortier, creating a subtle interplay between structured abstraction and more expressive, gestural approaches. Rather than following a single narrative, the presentation unfolded through contrasts—between control and spontaneity, construction and intuition.
Works on paper played a central role, ranging from the intimate drawings of Hugo Claus and Jan Fabre to an extensive group of linocuts by Lukasz. These works revealed drawing and printmaking as spaces of freedom and experimentation, where ideas could emerge more directly and immediately.
Sculptural and material-based works, including those by Vic Gentils, André Willequet, Ralph Cleeremans and Francis Olin, introduced a physical dimension to the presentation, extending the dialogue into space and emphasizing the tactile qualities of the works.
