A reflection on paper as a medium, revealing its central role in shaping post-war artistic expression.
At Art on Paper 2023, held at Tour & Taxis in Brussels, the Maurice Verbaet Gallery presented a focused selection of works highlighting the central role of drawing within Belgian post-war art. In line with the fair’s dedication to works on paper, the presentation brought together artists such as Hugo Claus, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Mi Van Landuyt, André Willequet, Claude Panier, and Lukasz Kurzatkowski.
The selection reflected the diversity of approaches to paper as a medium, ranging from gestural drawing and watercolor to more structured and experimental practices. By placing these works in dialogue, the presentation emphasized the immediacy, sensitivity, and versatility of drawing
